Buying a boat is such a big decision you can understand why it actually stops people from taking any action at all when it comes  time to buy.

The options, the motivations and the considerations are huge and all have a major impact on your future. Plus this  it is such a new out there unknown process for us it is hard to know what path is actually the right one…. Plus sometimes you wonder if your own decision making is trustworthy as the process is so involved in a long awaited dream.

Question: If you can’t trust yourself who do you trust?

What got us to this point?

Not being able to purchase Opale lll has been a big disappointment as she actually ticked all the boxes. She was the right type, the right age, had the bits both Captain and I wanted and she was in the right location and she was  in the euro market at the right price – off course a few negatives but hardly at all.

So where are we now that Opal lll has sailed away into the unattainable?

Catana Yard and Multihull Solutions havesuggested a new boat with a few strings attached

We purchase new not second hand and they sweeten the deal with discounts plus…

They would like to be able to show the boat to potential clients as well as have her lusted over at a boat show

In exchange we get to have our boat looked after at by the yard until we are ready to collect

We need to get Miss Catana to Turkey for Turkish boat show in September 2014

Hmm.

Still in France Patrick is happy to go through the options and try and negotiate the best deal possible for us and then we still test sail sister ship in Queensland over holidays to see what we think

Captain of finances Tim has offered questions for us to answer

So what’s swimming around my head at moment?

Cost is significantly more than original budget

New so you have warranty and shiny stuff that is always nice

New means newer technology which should mean safer

New you pay for absolutely every item no matter how small that goes on your boat

New boat at discount so better resale one would presume

New boat means you have your home set up as you want (if you can afford it)

Cost is more,  I know I’ve said this but I felt worthy or repeating

Whose interest is it to sell us new or used, can I trust Handy Patrick and co…

Can we afford this really or am I kidding myself
